Certamen Scribendi (July 21st)
New Prompt
I have been out on the road again, so I apologize for the delay in announcing the winner.
Winner
Last week, competitors were asked to write an elegaic couplet, and of all the fantastic submissions, we found this one sent by Gerardus to be worthy of the victor’s palm:
“Sunt homines pravi anne boni?” – rogitatur inepte,
cum sit perspicuum: Sunt homines stupidi.
Congratulations to Gerardus on his second win in a row!
New Prompt
In a brief paragraph (5-8 sentences), write an encomium of summer.
1) Adherence to the prompt. i.e. is the composition an encomium of summer?
2) Classical Latinity – You will lose points for any neoteric constructions.
3) Style i.e. are the sentences well structured and rhetorically sharp?
4) Creativity – how witty/interesting is the composition.
I have decided to give two weeks to this prompt, so submissions are DUE by WEDNESDAY August 2nd. Good luck!
