WHO IS A BEGINNER STUDENT?

  • For the purposes of this course, a beginner student is one who has studied some of the basics of the grammar and is acquainted with the first three or so declension, the indicative mood, the present and imperfect tenses. (This does not mean that they have mastered any of these concepts, only that they are familiar with them.)
  • They understand the basic uses of most of Latin’s cases.
  • They are familiar with some of the most common nouns, verbs, prepositions, etc.
  • They could Read through chapters 1-7 of Familia Romana with ease, 8-15 with difficulty. Chapter 16 would be far too difficult.
  • Check out our intermediate and advanced Latin videos on Youtube here to give yourself a better idea of the levels of Latin.

These are not strict rules about who is allowed to join this group, but are only guidelines meant to give you a general idea of how difficult the class will be. The term “Beginner” applies to a range of students, so don’t overthink your ability too much.

Beginner Course Goal: To strengthen one’s understanding of the basics through frequent repetition of some the most common structures and vocabulary.

The proposed goal is designed to give us something to work towards. We would like much of the discussions to be done in Latin! (Though you should feel free to ask questions in English. We want you to learn as much as you possibly can. I will also take time to explain some concepts in English.)

The classes will touch upon a variety of prearranged subjects such as:

  • family
  • animals
  • Roman gods
  • the weather
  • and more!

and will help strengthen your grasp and broaden your understanding of:

  • the proper application of cases
  • idiomatic expressions
  • noun gender
  • adjectival agreement
  • proper verb endings

These are a means for working towards our goal of strengthening your grasp of the basics, but the discussions are free to wander in accordance with the interest of the group. You are encouraged to ask questions and learn as much as you can!

More details and relavent course information will be emailed to you within 24 hours after your purchase of the course. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out with the form below!
