New Prompt
We had some solid entries this week, and choosing a winner has proven challenging. Last week’s prompt was to translate the following into Latin:
Why did the chicken cross the road? – To get to the other side!
Winner
Armandus
ARMANDUS submitted a well-crafted elegiac couplet, which earned him the creativity points to push his submission into the winner’s seat:
Transiit ergo viam pullus. ‘Cur? tute requiris.
Alterius ripae captus amore petit.
Congratulations! I’ll need to think of a way to get a leaderboard going. . .
New Prompt
Compose a short (5-8 sentence) paragraph in praise of elephants.
Submissions will be judged more-or-less on the following:
1) Adherence to the prompt. i.e. do they praise the elephant?; is the paragraph within the prescribed length?
2) Classical Latinity – You will lose points for any neoteric constructions.
3) Style i.e. is the rhetoric effective? Is the paragraph well-written and dynamic?
4) Creativity You may submit a poem in praise of the elephant, but that will not necessarily net you more creativity points than cleverly assembled prose, especially if the poem is not well-written.
Submissions are due by next Wednesday, June, 21st. Winner’s will be announced soon thereafter.
Please use the form below to submit your composition. Good luck!
